I've had this idea bouncing around in my head for a long time now,
the basic premise of the story is this.
what would happen if 3 people, citizens of Oceania in the world of 1984 were somehow magically transported to the united states in our world? what problems would they face and how would they adapt?
the plot isn't all flushed out, yet but here is what I have so far
the main character Christopher Carpenter is a part time college student. I guess you could call him an everyman. one day on his way home from his part time job finds three people lying in the street asleep.
Impulsively he helps take these people up and takes them back to his apartment because they look like there hurt. when they wake up they asks questions about were they are and who he is.
they start talking and Chris shows them some stuff and after a while they realize there not in Oceania anymore, they tell him about where they come from and Chris isn't sure if he believes them or not but he doesn't want to send them to an Asylum or anything.
Chris Carpenter promises to try and help them adjust to there new life.
Johnathan: a 18 year old prole, is unintelligent and childish but has a certain sweetness to him and genuinely wants to become smarter.
Emily Dale: 29 year old member of the outer party, as traumatized and disturbed as any other outer party member. is used to having telescreens watch her and i
Logan Connor: 32 year old member of the inner party, a cynical individual who thinks he's better than everyone else because he's a member of the elite. Gets' angry at Chris whenever he contradicts him and is grumpy because he's not on the top anymore. he is confused and infuriated by religion, family, history, and politics.
Chris every day tries to educate them about our world, he has the explain the two party system, about mathematics, about science and history. about the fact that 2+2=4 not 5 as John previous thought and Connor tried to insist.
Chris also likes hearing stories that the 3 outsiders share with him, stories about the Oceania. Johns stories about Steamers destroying his house, Emma's stories about the hate weeks and the telescreens, Logan's boastful monologues about his previous life as one of Oceania's elite.
Johnathan is the most annoying one of them at the beggining because he doesn't seem the know anything and Chris has to teach him everything from scratch, however Johnathan is eager to learn and he wants to integrate into this world.
Logan keeps on hoping that some mystical event will transport him home, because he doesn't like not being in charge and he thinks that our world is decadent.
Chris's ultimate goal remains to try and get them to be as independent as possible so they won't need him anymore.
at some point in the story, Chris finds another apartment for the 3 outsiders to move into and tries to help them all get jobs. he stays in contact with them though.
Johnathan is the first one to get a job, because he's used to working. he initially gets a job working as a janitor for the college that Chris attends, he later in the story gets a higher paid job at a coffee shop and moves away from the others to get an apartment for himself. He eventually joins the college Chris is attending and starts hanging out with Chris that way.
Emily takes a lot longer to get employed, he has to take more time to adjust her mind to living without Big Brother watching over her, supposedly protecting her. She eventually gets a job as job as an accountant somewhere, she's used to dealing with bureaucracies and juggling nonsense statistics. She's unused to having a life outside of work and being allowed to date people, she does eventually get a boyfriend.
Logan refuses to hunt for a job, he thinks that everyone in this world is beneath him. Instead spending his time watching TV or searching for people who he thinks could figure out a way to transport him home.
that's about all I've got for the story so far _________________ being a republican does not make me a redneck!
