An oldie, but a goodie, if you havent seen it for a while. The original Time Magazine review of Nineteen Eighty-Four. This article coupled with the Feb 1950 article after Orwell/Blair's death leaves no question as to how important 1984 was seen immediately upon publication.
I'll drop in a link to the Feb 1950 article and the review of Animal Farm as well.

Thanks for those.
Odd to see the word "Orwellian" used as early as 1950. However, the reviewer uses it to mean Orwell's "forthrightness of mind and a limber, cutting style" and it presumably didn't carry the connotations it has nowadays. _________________ Plusgood duckspeak. |
