1. Kimberley Big Hole - South Africa...
Apparently the largest ever hand-dug excavation in the world, this 1097-meter-deep mine yielded over three tons of diamonds before being closed.

2. Glory Hole - Monticello Dam, California...
This is the Glory Hole at Monticello Dam, and it's the largest in the world of this type of spillway, its size enabling it to consume 14,400 cubic feet of water every second. A glory hole is used when a dam is at full capacity and water needs to be drained from the reservoir.

3. Great Blue Hole , Belize...
This incredible geographical phenomenon known as a blue hole is situated 60 miles off the mainland of Belize. There are numerous blue holes around the world but none as stunning as this one.

4. Sinkhole in Guatemala...

This photo is of a sinkhole that occurred February 2007 in Guatemala . It swallowed two dozen homes and killed at least three people.

5. And the really terrifying one! ...
This is the famous “Rat Hole” that you have heard about. It is capable of swallowing trillions and trillions of U.S. dollars annually, never to be heard from again! It is reputed to contain at least 535 ass"holes".

How many of these holes would fill up the Albert Hall? Of course, how many Albert Halls would fill up the holes? I just had to do that.

Edit: I think I have the answers for two of the holes. [Royal Albert Hall is assumed to have a voluem of 3.5 million cubic feet, as it is the only value I found).
Kimberly Big hole: Since the surface of the hole is 42 acres, and the depth up to the water 570 feet, it would hold 298 RAH's.
Great Blue Hole: Circular Hole: 984 foot diameter, 394 foot depth. 85.6 RAH's.

The things I do as a Beatles Fan and a math Geek with too much free time.

Grow a social life....deadbeat.

Oregon's Crater Lake is a deep hole conceived in volcanic collapse. I figured it could still squeeze into your thread since you include geographical phenomena, and Crater Lake has some unusual properties. The pure rain water that has filled the lake is almost completely sterile. Its lack of life and sediment allows you to see the bottom of the lake easily, which is 2000 feet below the surface. This can make the lake seem rather scary, particularly for swimmers.

I'm guessing the reason this thread was voted 1-star is because of the inclusion of our capitol building as a large hole. I can't imagine how this would be an unpopular opinion, though, unless people thought that recent changes in management in 2006 and 2008 might alter the situation. Hah. The funny thing about sinkholes is that they grow geometrically. At present, the Congress and executive have agreed upon bailout plans that exceed the inflation adjusted-outlays for the Marshall Plan, Louisiana Purchase, lunar missions, S&L bailout, Korean War, New Deal, Iraq war, Vietnam war, and NASA's lifetime budget combined Twisted Evil
