| Space Alien Concentration Camps? - new movie District 9 |

I saw an interesting review for a new movie - District 9
http://socialistworker.org/2009/08/19/soweto-for-space-aliens
It looks to be in interesting take on racism, apartheid through science fiction, but this time with aliens at the center.
The aliens who have some lobster - like features come to be called PRAWNS and end up in a concentration camp outside of joberg South Africa.
Looks like an interesting movie, in spite of its flaws. I wonder how much play time it will get in theaters in mainstream US.
Here is Entertainment Weekly's review:

And here is the official web site of the movie:

Hopefully it is coming soon to a theater near you!

What the fuck is this piece of shit about Gaza? Hamas' forces in Gaza are a lot stronger than you might think. They don't want to use all their force at once so they can look like the underdog. It goes without saying that they don't have tanks, aircraft, or heavy artillery, but they have everything up to that point. Where are they getting it from? Well they're sure as hell not getting most of it from Israel. They're getting it from Egypt.
Just look here:

And another thing:
| From socialistworker.org |
| And I believe more and more that the two-state solution has come to an end, and what I am suggesting is more radical than what Hamas is proposing, because Hamas has accepted the two-state solution. |
I think it would have been more of a newsworthy event if that were true. I mean, when did you hear Ismail Haniyah say that or anything similar to that? Hmm?
Oh, yeah, I saw District 9. It's a good movie. _________________ ಠ_ಠ

Youre right, we're in need of a good long hard argument and look at Hamas. There are a lot of things that make Hamas strong and weaponry is the least of it. Living in a place with no real status and no real hope of a better existence for your family is certainly a big part of motivation.
I doubt most of the military type hardware getting into Gaza is coming FROM Egypt directly - certainly it is coming THROUGH Egypt and Egypt to some degree turns a blind eye to controlling what gets through. The Sinai is a big open but at some point you have to get goods into the tunnels or what ever other limited means of transferring goods there are.
Israel's biggest problem is the way it treats its non citizens. (Meaning its non Israeli citizens). Treating a portion of your population as second class citizens, at best, is counterproductive.
I hear arguments all the time as to whose 'fault' it might be that the Palestinians are not given full citizenship by the Israelis. Nothing has truly worked itself out since 1917.
The Irgun were definitely the freedom fighter/terrorists that set the mark for direct action in the Middle East. It is interesting how things have come full circle now to where the Palestinians are in a situation against the Israelis that the Israelis were against the British from 1930 to 1948 - ish.

Oh yeah, the movie... I forgot about that!
I hoped to see it this week, maybe Friday or Sat. I didnt realise immediately that it actually had a pretty wide release. I hadnt heard of it. Hopefully it isnt TOO Hollywood!

Yes there is racism in the movie inclined towards the African people. Its hard to tell how to tell how the audience is going to react to it or their views on it. _________________ Towing Service in Portland |
