AOL's solution for fighting spam? Block out the little guy.
This is a bunch of crap! I run my own mail server. Now, AOL won’t accept any mail from my server. Oh, I can still receive spam from their crappy users, but I can't send mail to anybody with a @aol.com address. And why?... because a lot of people like me who run their own servers are too fucking lazy/stupid to turn off SMTP relaying, so spammers use their servers to bounce spam to poor AOL users... and AOL is to fucking lazy/stupid to just block mail from those people.
If they’re so fucking concerned, they could just check to see if incoming mail is coming from a server with relaying turned on ... but NOoOoOoOo... they just block everybody! This kind of shit is the reason I dumped AOL years ago. And with the advent of broadband, I can’t understand why anybody still pays money for their crappy service. There are free e-mail accounts everywhere. There are free chat rooms everywhere. (I’m working on one myself!) Why the fuck does ANYBODY need aol anymore?
AOL is an anachronism, and they need to go the way of the fucking dinosaurs.

The only people that use AOL are overprotective parents that don't want their 12 year old kids to see words like "shit" and "bitch". I can't stand people like that. Don't get me wrong, I don't go around cursing all the time, but when you hear curse words being used they're usually being used in comedy, anger, or drama.

You make a good point BB. To put it simply, AOL is too lazy to get their shit together and so are a lot of people that use it. I used to have a Hotmail account that would literally get dozens of spam e-mails a day. It finally became too time consuming when I'd get 50 e-mails a day and when my internet service started acting crappy, so what did I do? I created a new account, duh. 
I didn't waste my time bugging Hotmail. I took action myself and fixed the problem. My new Hotmail account hardly gets ANY spam. A lot of AOL users that GET spam get no more than 10 pieces of spam e-mail a day, and it's too much for them to check 10 boxes and click delete. Jesus Christ.

I think you've all forogt that AOL is the worst thing that happened to the internet next to the natural viagra spam e-mails, and well, spam.. AOL I dont think really cares, they still have bajillions of soccer baptist mothers that still use Primitive 56k for there home QVC shopping, although QVC does have some good deals... back to the subject, I think they're to lazy and also not willing to invest extra ammounts of resources into blocking spammers themselves. Its almost impossible to, they can use a remote proxy to mask, use other PC's as slaves or zombies, ect. But should they just block all DHCP servers? Absolutely not. Your a prime example of how they can fuck up peoples site and hits they get on it, and people that subscribe to news letters. Like it says, the easier route isnt always the best route. Then again, how many AOL users actually subscribe to newspeakdictionary.com anywyas? I mean they use AOL. (Kidding)

I'd like to point out that a lot big companies anymore are suspisciously "For You and By The People." But in real life, disregarding their slogans, yhey are exactly the opposites of those things-and people buy into that crap.  "I own this huge business and sell at whatever price I want, but I'm so anti-establishment!" It's funny that some people thing rock-'n-roll or blue jeans are somehow "subversive"(99% I would say is definitely NOT) and not just another way to keep the proles happy.

They don't call it GAOL because it's top quality service. It's only been recently that I discovered that Supermarkets are in fact able to offer a superior service compared to, say, British Telecom. Tesconet, for instance, provides an excellent broadband service on the cheap. Maybe not useful if you want to download all the James Bond movies, but good enough to see the best three.

I don't use AOL anymore because I thinks it is crap. I've used Firefox for a long time and I think it's great.

I live in Hong Kong, so no one really uses AOL. We all use gmail or hotmail. Hotmail sucks but not to the point of AOL.
AOL IS THE GREATEST BROWSER IN THE JURRASIC PERIOD!!!
