As an argument for Oligarchical Collectivism, compare the three stories. In 1984, people are forced to live in mysery and fear, much as people were made to do in the USSR after WW2.
In the Matrix, the Architect points out that the human mind rejected a perfect world and hte proper balance between effort and reward must be maintaned or the mind would reject the reality it was presented.
In the Truman Show, Truman is placed in a paradice and he accepts his reality until he becomes a 30-something adult and begins to think more for himself. At one point in the movie, Christoph points out that Truman prefers his "cell" and that is why he accepts a reality that is obviously counterfiet.
I think that the USSR would have succeeded if it didn't have to devote so much of it's economy to fighting the US for military supremacy. If both sides had trusted each other, the fear (and motivation for compitition) would have been removed from the reality of the equasion and the USSR would probably still exist today. China is an excellent example of an Orwellian society that has adapted and lucked into prefered trade status with the US, thanks to that ASSHOLE, Nixon. But in all fairness, Nixon realized that we could not win an economic war (read: Military spending) against the USSR and China, fought simultaneously.
So, do you prefer your cell, rather than face reality? _________________ You know what is in room 101...Everyone knows. |

Hmm, I refuse to speak to myself after such an underhand comment!
Anyway, how about drawing comparisons between the big 3 fantasy series (Star Wars, Lord Of The Rings and The Matrix)?

Sorry but the USSR was doomed to failed since the first day that the Bolshevik took over Russia, the Cummonist utopia is a society where everyone is equal this of coures cannot be done and never could have since someone will always need to be in charge so in fact the party leader became a new version of the Tsar and the Politburo a new aristochrasy. |

Because the Lord of the Rings stories suck and have nothing to do with politics. _________________ You know what is in room 101...Everyone knows. |
